7. Cozy up by the fire
Atlas cozied up in the fire. Eyes returned as he scanned who had circled around them. Atlas threw something in the fire, and it sparked up.
"The tale of the deer woman..."
They started.
"It was a cold night, foggy... REALLY... Foggy." They cleared their throat.
"The only light in sight. Was the moon. What the moon had witnessed that night.
The distress of a young maiden. Screaming. Begging for help. But no one answered. Simply a Kitsu shrouded in darkness. Blood had covered half their face, and a long, wide smile crossed the darkness from ear to ear. You see this was the hunting ground... but what they didn't know... was that it was sacred ground. The ground rumbled and the cold night let out a long and howling gust of wind.
The sound of grass getting agitated, momentarily took the smile from the Kitsu. Turning around rapidly the Kitsu was met with still black orbs, on the body of a deer. It didn't move. Just stared at him.... as if to show the Kitsu, that IT had SAW him.... that SOMEONE WITNESSED what they had done.
The killer kitsu moved forward and waved its hand... then waved the knife but the deer was unwavering.
Waving the deer away- he turned and went to dig a hole for the body. When they started- more rustling happened and quickly the killer kitsu lifted their shovel- he was once so powerful especially over those he killed... but now. He felt like he was being hunted. The bushes swayed and the kitsu grew more nervous. His shovel and knife were his only weapons.
He could hear hooved shuffling about but the deer from before was simply there. Watching him with every move he made. Made it was the deer calling its friends. Maybe that was it!
The killer kitsu laughed. Slowly walking over towards the deer.
"You... think I won't skin you? You are just a pelt! Do you know how many kitsu I've killed!? HA- HAHA A PELT!"
When he went to lunge the shovel in the direction of the deer- it bolted for him... and when he swung. It didn't make contact. When he turned around.......
Atlas threw some grass in to the fire and made pieces of the grass float and burn.
He was met with kitsu... who had hooves like a deer... with a terribly long neck, and its hair fine and long... the kitsu or whatever it was- from its twisted neck, hung a head....
The murderous kitsu was met with a smile full of razor sharp teeth. It's face shrouded in darkness except for those..red rounded eyes.
The kitsu tried to swing- but it never made contact. But when he swung... all he could see are the countless female kitsu that he had killed. All surrounding him and starring at him.
A scream sounded- and the birds flew from the tree tops...
His body was later found on their knees, in a prayer position/deep bow position in front of a female kitsu.
"They say that when you hurt a woman or child ... the deer woman will exact her revenge.
