Nautica was new to all of this. She hadn't really thought about taking care of a fyrehen or anything else for that matter, at least not yet, not until she had gotten her paws under her. But her friend Aurora seemed to have a growing flock and found herself in need of rehoming some hens. And so she came to Nautica.
"Oh, I don't know..." Nautica sighed but couldn't bring herself to resist. She took down the name of the shop and shopkeep she was advised to talk too and set out with her backpack to go and see what all she could learn.
Once she arrived at Farm Song, she found Elizabeth quite quickly, glad to see the other kitsu was as friendly as Aurora had said she'd be. "I'm here to show you back to my place....for tips and tricks and... well help on raising a hen or two..." she said softly, a bit sheepishly and shy. Elizabeth seemed to not mind and gently took the other kitsu's paw in a calming gesture as Nautica led the shopkeep back to her place.
Once there, the nerves didn't ease per say, but Elizabeth didn't seemed in any way upset and simply pointed out a great space to start setting up the coop. She began listing off things needed and Nautica soon found herself feeling overwhelmed. Seeing this, Elizabeth smiled and held out a list of items she'd need as well as how to feed, water and care for the hens. She even went into detail about raising eggs. Wow, this all seemed so much! But the pair got to work, Elizabeth, at first, doing most of the job until Nautica got her feel for how it was meant to be done.
In a few hours, a brand new coop was built and Nautica was placing feed into special dishes as well as putting out fresh water and toys for her future hens. She smiled at herself, proud of herself for having gone through this. But also eternally greatful for Elizabeth and her help. "Thank you...ever so much. I can't even begin to repay you!" she said softly, giving the other a hug. As they waved goodbye to each other, Nautica looked over her new little coop and butterflies swam in her stomach.
Tomorrow... she'd have new little ones to care for. How exciting...and terrifying!
