30. Dream job

Finally, Jaden was able to take their work with wool one step further. They had acquired a loom! Setting up the wooden contraption in their work room, (after moving things around and freeing up the space for it), had been a job all on its own. Once it was set up, they could slowly begin to learn how to start weaving cloth. Despite being a terrestrial kitsu, and having green, green thumbs, loving working in the orchard and the gardens, with plants in general, Jaden had a passion for wool.

They loved the smell, the feel of the strands twisting between their fingers. Everything about the process of making raw wool into useful yarn, (except perhaps, cleaning baa poo out of the raw wool) was fun, interesting and brought them joy. Learning to spin, learning to knit, and now learning to weave, it was all an adventure.

So they would consider working with lallabaa wool to be their 'dream job' but it was what they already got to do everyday, (when the seasonal garden work allowed for it), and they thought the idea of 'a dream job' was a little bit silly. Perhaps they did dream about working with wool, but they preferred to dream about other things, and leave the work for the working hours.

Vervain, on the other hand, didn't dream of work. They never stopped trying new things, learning new skills, making up new recipes, finding new things to do, to enjoy. When they wanted to do something, when an idea struck, they would take the steps needed to be able to do what they wanted to do. If they couldn't do what they wanted to do right now, for whatever reason, the weather, not having access to the supplies, the idea would be set aside, written down for later, for when whatever it was that was stopping them could be resolved. They didn't dwell on it.

They loved to cook and bake. Nearly everyday they spent at least some time in the kitchen, but they also made sure to have things to make quicker and easier meals on hand, for the days when their wants and wishes pulled them elsewhere. When they made an excess, they would share it and trade it, and on the chance that they didn't want to cook, Jaden never seemed to mind filling in for them.

Vervain dreamed of warmth and light, of freedom. They saw the happy faces of the ones that they loved and called friends and neighbors. They dreamed that all of their days would be good, and that the bad ones would pass swiftly. 

Vervain dreamed, in their secret heart of hearts, of a big happy family. That would be their most joyful work. Raising up kits, teaching their little ones the ways of the world, reading them stories, watching them grow and learn and change...

Waking up with a sweet, soft feeling in their chest, Vervain slowly sat up. They'd fallen asleep in a hammock tied up between two trees in the yard. For a moment, in their mind's eye, they could picture their dream, but it soon dissolved, bursting like a soap bubble in the kitchen sink. Another idea for later.
