16. Trick or Treat

Jaden split off from Vervain after they had arrived in town, Ver, in their cute witch costume, was headed towards the 'Potluck' to drop off their side dishes and help man the tables. Jaden's course, on the other hand, took them all around town. As it was explained, 'Trick or Treaters' were supposed to come to your house and knock, and you gave them little treats or candy. However, neither Vervain nor Jaden had wanted to spend the festival night alone at home. Not to mention the fact that their house was a fair distance out, through the dry, grassy field. Too long a trek for a piece of candy. 

Instead, they had let it be known that they wouldn't be home (with a sign on the edge of town to warn trick or treaters against the long walk). Instead they brought their candies to town, Jaden walked around with their basket, handing out little handfuls to each kit and kitsu in costume, that had a little pail, or a bag. It was a lot of fun to see everyone dressed up. The array of colors and styles, as different as any kitsu's pelt.

Bedsheet ghosts howled spooky sounds, arms raised, sheets flapping. Pirates and ninja staged little mock battles that ranged all over town. Of course Jaden joined in the ninja whenever they got the chance to 'fight' for their side. Nearly every color of fyrefowl and lallabaa was represented in the crowd. Jaden laughed and emptied their basket, but the funny thing was, other people would give them candy. Jaden hadn't meant to join the trick or treater, but there were so many treats and sweets being traded, they ended up with lots of things in their basket that they hadn't brought and had never tried before.

Jaden decided they would share with Vervain, the celestial's sweet tooth was much bigger than their own was.

After a few hours, and a few circuits of town, Jaden made their way towards where the potluck was set up. To get something besides sweets and candies to eat and to spend some time with Vervain. Finding Vervain wasn't as difficult as Jaden thought it was going to be. They weren't sure how much time it had been, but Vervain was still lingering around the tables.

Vervain shared the deviled eggs with Jaden, which they loved! Jaden filled a plate with more samples and sides from the buffet tables, then found an out of the way place to sit and eat and chat with Vervain, telling their best friend and housemate about the adventure and mock battles that had unfolded during the trick or treating. Jaden shared the basket with Vervain, the celestial picked out a few hard candies, but didn't take too many, claiming to already be full from sampling everything. They would take the treat basket home and finish them off over the course of days and weeks, eating the ones that might spoil fastest, while the other things stuck around longer, but were eventually all eaten up between the two of them.
