Haunt Fair - Xiang and Su Su
Su Su tugged excitedly on Xiang’s hand with both paws, trying with all of their itty bitty might to tug their guardian along /faster/. Xiang’s pace was slow, too slow, much, much too slow. He strode along, the braided and coiled length of his hair draped artfully over his unoccupied arm, as if he hadn’t a care in the world, as if the Hallowed Haunt at Plume’s Farm. Wasn’t. Just. Right. Over. There.
On the walk over, Xiang stopped to talk with several people he knew, bakers and blacksmiths, a candle maker and their kin, and Su Su stood silently and politely at his side, smiling brightly whenever someone dropped candy into their little bucket. But now, /now/, they were so close to the excitement that little Su Su couldn't wait a moment longer.
Xiang finally stopped dragging his feet, teasing his tiny charge was all in good fun, but he was eager for the real fun too, not just the little kitsu. He bent and scooped Su Su up, resting the kit on his hip as they entered Plume's farm and the Haunt grounds unfolded before them.
Su Su was set down upon their feet once more, and this time when they tugged on Xiang's hand and pointed where they wanted to head first Xiang hurried along promptly. First they played several rounds of Silkittie Toss, Su Su managed to win a little bit of candy, and Xiang won a little bit more, adding it to Su Su's bucket. Su Su wanted to bob for apples, but was too small and nearly fell into the big basin of water. Xiang wouldn't play for them, as he wasn't keen on dunking his face into cold water.
Disappointment nearly turned to tears, but there were many, many other games to play and amusements to look at that Xiang had the little kitsu quickly distracted. Tossing rings into bottles, searching for buried 'treasures' in tubs of grains with your eyes blindfolded. Pumpkin bowling and 'Spooky' fishing.
There were also relay races being run where contestants attempted to usher big spoonfuls of little candies a distance the fastest and without dropping all of their cargo, and a game Su Su wanted to play half a dozen times where you had to use a catapult to launch small woollen critters through the air. If they landed on the target zone you got to keep the toy. The key to the game was good aiming and moderating your strength. Su Su's strength, it seemed, was perfect for landing the critter in the win zone and they collected a little menagerie of felted animals into their candy bucket before Xiang scooped Su Su up and let the next kitsu in line have a go.
Su Su didn't complain, much, too tickled at their wins and distracted with pieces of candy as they walked along. Having exhausted the games set up for younger kitsu, Xiang asked Su Su if they wanted to get something to eat. There were stalls set up with foods that were somewhat healthier than all the sugary candies they had been eating.
The pair ended up sharing a plate of battered and deep fried veggies and fish. Su Su didn't care for the fishy bits nearly as much as the vegetables and the golden batter, so they would 'accidently' drop whatever was leftover after they'd nibbled off the crispy parts, when Xiang was distracted and not looking their way.
The discarded meaty morsels attracted the attention of a little stray Wistella kitten, who braved the swish of Su Su's many tails to snatch up bites and scamper back into the shadowy place at the edge of the seating area. After three or four trips, the kit became braver, and settled down beneath Su Su's feet, gobbling up the bits of fried fish right there, instead of darting away.
By the time Xiang noticed what Su Su had been doing, the kitten was climbing up to sit between the pair and purring contently, blinking its huge orange eyes up at the little kitsu. Xiang knew there was no chance that he was going to separate the two without a fit of yowling and tears.
