Calix Makes a Stew

Calix was working on making dinner.  He had heard that the best thing to have on cold days is something warm and a few kitsu recommended making a stew.  It sounded so good he couldn't pass up the chance to make something delicious, his mouth had practically watered as he looked over the recipe for the meal.  It was all of his favorite things in a steamy broth, what was there to not love?  He hummed to himself as he placed everything on the counter, then carefully grabbed a knife.  Normally he was pretty impulsive and quick to move but even he could manage to go slow when it came to kitchen work, and he wasn't planning on getting an injury because he couldn't pay better attention.  So he chopped up some vegetables, and some meat, being careful not to cross contaminate anything as he knew his sister would lecture him if he was careless with cooking.  So he followed all the rules of the kitchen, slowly and methodically prepping and beginning to cook so everything would be ready on time.  He began adding the prepped food into the stew broth and licked his lips.  His mouth was practically watering already, even though it hadn't yet created the wonderful scent that would eventually take over the whole kitchen, he was already excited for it.  He hummed thoughtfully as he added the last few pieces into the broth and set the lid on it.

Sighing he set to work washing the dishes he had used to prep the food, drying them, and placing them back in their homes.  It didn't take long before he finished and decided to go take care of the livestock he had outside.  He wanted to make sure they were comfy, warm and had plenty of food and water.  He would bring them inside if he could, but didn't think the Fyrefowl in the house would go over well.  He giggled at the thought of them running around the house and getting feathers everywhere.  His hens cocked their head at his amusement, probably wondering what was so funny but he just went back to refilling their food and giving each of them some pets.  He spent some extra time outside, just sitting with the Fyrefowl and watching them strut about doing their own thing.  He would talk to them a bit, and they would stare at him so he almost swore they understood him. 

He loved being outside with the livestock, even with the weather outside cooling down like it had been, so it was always easy for him to lose track of time when he did.  He wasn't sure how long it had been but he stood up and dusted himself off, wished the animals a good night, and headed back inside.  The smell of stew was strong now, he could catch whiffs of it as soon as he walked by the kitchen and grinned.  Seems like it was cooking just fine, and if it tasted half as good as it already smelled it would be amazing.  He found things to do to finish passing the time until it was finally time for dinner.  He was beyond excited when it was finally time and rushed to get things finished off, much to his sister's amusement.  They sat down together for dinner, chatting about their days and enjoying each other's company as they ate.
