Larkspur's Baking Adventure

Larkspur woke up feeling a little down. While she overall enjoyed the weather cooling down it seemed to be bringing her mood down with it some days. She didn't know why, but she knew she needed to do something to distract her and maybe cheer herself up. And of course the first idea what popped into the young one's head was her favorite hobby, baking! She padded to the kitchen to see what ingredients she had and was grateful she had recently stocked everything up as that meant she wouldn't have to leave the house she could just get started. With expert movements she began pulling our flour, sugar, spices, several measuring utensils, bowls, and a myriad of other things. The first thing she started on was cookies, warm chocolate chip cookies were always a great way to brighten up someones mood. She turned her over on, them she measured things out and added them to bowls, checking them off in her mind. She had long since graduated from needing to look at the recipes for most thing, they were ingrained in her brain at this point since she enjoyed baking so much. It didn't take long for the dough to be ready and she methodically portioned out spoonfulls onto the baking sheet until it was full, at which point she put it in the oven to start baking. While she had some time before the next batch could go in she took the dishes she had used to the sink and began cleaning them and set them on the drying rack until they were needed again. Then she grabbed some peanut butter and set to work on the next batch of cookies. She worked this way for a few hours, taking a couple breaks to let the oven cool off some so it wouldn't burn anything. By the time it was all said and done she was sweating a bit, the kitchen counters were covered in plates and trays of baked goods ranging from cookies to cakes with even a couple pies mixed in. She fished washing the last few dishes, wiped the counters done real well and stepped back to admire her handiwork and appreciate the smell of comfort swirling around the kitchen. She knew she had gotten a bit carried away, there was no way she and Calix could eat all of this by themselves, but surely her brother had friends he could offer some to as well. That gave her an idea! She would run into town and pick up some treat boxes! That way he could give them to Kistu easier! She had seen some cute blue ones, and some red and green ones, in town a few days ago and hoped they still had some in stock. She felt excited as she grabbed her jacket and headed into town, her glum mood long forgotten at this point. She remembered exactly where she had seen the boxes and bee-lined for the store. She found them easy enough and just stared, wondering how many she should buy. In the end she settled for three of the blue ones and three of the red and green. That should be enough. And if it wasn't Calix could run into town and get more. She paid for the containers, wished the cashier a good afternoon, then raced back home to start filling the containers before she and Calix started to eat the baked goods on their own. She giggling, knowing how excited he would be to find all the sweets in the kitchen and he would immediately grab some so she needed to get some put away before that happened.
