Reverie dreams of a family
Reverie had thus far lived a relatively alright life with Fantasm, their bitey spirit. There were up days and there were down days of course, where Rev honestly wished Fantasm would get lost only to reconcile with the spirit later. And then they met Ziya, who also had a bitey spirit named NIera and the two infernals quickly became more than friends. Not only that, but Fantasm seemed to enjoy having Niera around, another spirit just like he was, it was a chaotic mix, but a good one. However, Reverie and Ziya both agreed that little paws running around....might honestly be a good idea.
Since the discussion, Reverie had begun to think a lot about kits and adopting. Would they make a good parent? Ziya certainly would, Rev had no doubt. But themself? Rev wasn't so sure about that. Fantasm could be...a bit much at times, and almost as if on cue, the bitey spirit came over, snapping his skull jaws needily, his spirit tail wagging like an excitable pup. He picked up a freshly dug out carrot he had torn from the garden, not yet ripe, and chucked it at Reverie. "No... we are not playing fetch right now." Rev sighed, rubbing their forehead where the carrot had hit. "C'mon..lets go for a walk instead." they said, getting to their paws and heading out the door.
Reverie smiled a moment, feeling the sun on their black fur. It felt warm and soothing and they were almost content to just sit there and soak it up when Reverie, again, chucked a carrot at their head. Sighing, Rev picked up the carrot and growled, continuing with their walk down towards the busier parts of the small village. He had heard rumors that lots of kits had been running around recently, without parents. This is what had sparked the conversation between Ziya and them. And sure enough, as Reverie went along.... several young kitsu could be seen running about, playing games, causing scenes or just having fun. It brought a soft smile to their lips as they paused, chuckling a bit to themselves.
Suddenly, they felt a poke at their side and turned, noticing one of the kits had run up to them, quietly, even Fantasm hadn't heard them coming. They grinned sheepishly, sticking their tongue out at Fatnasm as he tried to seem fierce, only to give in to a quick chink scratch. "Why do you have a carrot?" the child asked, and Rev blinked, surprised.
In all this chaos, Rev had forgotten they were still holding a carrot that Fantasm had thrown at them earlier. "Oh.. Fantasm wanted to play...." they admitted, knowing it sounded odd.
"With a carrot?!" the kit laughed.
"Yeah....." Rev chuckled nervously...before offering it to the kit. "Want to toss it for him?" Rev asked.
The kit lighted up and grabbed the carrot eagerly. "YEAH!" they called out, tossing the carrot as far as their little arm would allow.
Fantasm was off like a bolt, causing Rev to do a 360 spin before falling to their rear. "Oof." they said, a bit dazzed.
The kit just seemed to laugh and laugh, falling to their own bottom in a fit of giggles.
The giggling was infectious, Rev had to admit, and began laughing more themselves. "You got a good arm there."
"Thanks! I've been practicing." the kit grinned cheekily again, pointing to a few splattered vegetable messes on the side of some of the local shops.
Reverie's ears fell flat against their head at first....before letting out another laugh. The innocence of kits was sometimes just too adorable...despite mostly inappropriate at times. Maybe if someone was around to teach them.....
A light clicked on inside Reverie's mind and they grinned. "Very nice...but why not come practice where the mess wont make such a big deal... at my place?"
The kit's eyes went large and wide, their smile spreading so far across their face as Fantasm came back and plopped his head upon their head, his spirit tail wagging at the possibility of yet another new friend.
