Zoe had come to recognize their home as a particular tree that they would lay against, rather than a home with four walls and a roof. They didn't really mind their atypical lifestyle, but convincing Elizabeth about the prospect of setting up a Fyrehen coop near the tree may have been harder than an average townsperson who owned a proper house.

"Can anyone really own property here?" They'd asked Elizabeth, before waving their paw in front of their own muzzle and going. "That's besides the point, though. I'll make a sign in front of the coop that says 'ZOE'S COOP' so others will know that this coop and the hens inside it, belong to me." They quickly went on. "Aaaaaand! And - despite my tendency to sleep outside these fyrefowl will never long for warmth. That's because they'll have the cozy coop you'd make for them, and well, between my taking care of the birds properly and you ensuring that they have a sturdy coop - isn't it just the same as any other fyrefowl owner, who sets up their coops outside their home?" They asked imploringly.

They knew that this would be easier if they had a house of their own - but Zoe wasn't going to ask how to get one, not now, after they'd just spent so long trying to convince Elizabeth that they didn't need a house in order to have fyrehens and a coop to keep them in.

"Please, Elizabeth, I'll be good to the little hens - and even the big hens - and even the not hens. I just! I can't spend all of my days sleeping and waking up and picking grass. I would like my life to have some sort of purpose - I have to be here for some reason, right? Maybe taking care of fyrehens are it! Or maybe, getting into the fyrefowl community is it! You have to help me out here, Elizabeth. Besides, I'm sure once I get the hang of it, I'll be a customer for life! How's that sound?" They asked, a hint of wildness around their eyes as they asked for Elizabeth's aid. (353)
