Axyl had been listening to the grown ups, currently he was staying with a kitsu called Duma who was teaching him how to look after her Fyrehens and Lallabass, he was a bit bored of it, but he liked collecting the eggs, it was fun to run around and hunt for where the hens had laid them, though the Roos could be a little bit scary, Terra had told him that he had to look big and not run away so he tried.
it was on a hot day, after the beach, that the duckies flocked in, he saw some other Kitsu keeping them as farmyard animals like the hens and he rather liked the idea, he'd asked Duma that morning if he could go ahead and try and catch some for her, she'd been busy shearing the baas so she kind of just waved at him and gave a muttered "mhm" in distraction. He wasn't about to let the chance slip away.
He ran out of her house and into the town, after taking some of the feed from the fyrehens ... birds ate the same thing right? He found a quiet place near a pond, he'd seen duckies there a few times before. He scattered some seed and waited.
He didn't have to wait long before a duckie or two ventured out to look at the seed but they kept fleeing before he could catch one. At one point an older Kitsu came along and gave him some advice, That he should actually maybe hide, since he was nautical, perhaps he could hide underwater and try and catch one. Axyl thanked the older lady but wanted to try it his own way. He missed a dozen more times before he finally admitted to himself that maybe the lady had been onto something. He scattered seed along the edges of the pond then slid in quietly, watching above for little ducky feet.
He didn't have to wait long, he slowly swam upwards towards the surface before giving one powerful flick of his tail and launching himself at the Meloduckie, catching it in his arms. It flailed around a bit before he could trap it's wings in his arms "I DID IT!" he whooped, before RUNNING home to Duma, who just sighed, she'd had a feeling he was going to try and catch one, so had already been and built a nice little pond in the last day or two. "Well done Axyl" she said, patting the kid on the head, who beamed wide, the Duckie in his arms, resigned to it's fate as a pet now.
